Julie Fawn Boisseau
Clay is the foundation that my creative expression is built upon. Though my focus has been primarily in the area of functional ceramics, my work has evolved into a more sculptural approach, which incorporates hand blown glass, metal, and wood. Process plays a vital role in my work; therefore I am constantly refining my skills in these mediums in order to learn about their potential. I feel this creates even more interest for the composition as well as the narrative. My goal is to stimulate the viewer by creating a tension between the complexity of the formal qualities and the subject matter. As a female artist of Native American descent, I want to convey the various aspects of my multi-dimensional identity. This is a contradiction I am developing as part of my thesis work.
